San Francisco, CA 94123
(415) 292-2300

Part gastropub, part speakeasy, Tipsy Pig is a popular destination on Chestnut Street for crafted cocktails, comfort food bites, and the usual good looking Marina scenery. Most nights there’s quite a crowd that gathers here, which can make the dining room a bit noisy for intimate dinner conversation. For warm weather outings, the rear patio tables are a coveted spot for evening drinks and weekend brunches.

The food menu at Tipsy Pig features items like smoked bacon mac & cheese, Chimay-braised pulled pork sliders with red cabbage slaw on Hawaiian sweet buns, BBQ baby back ribs, chicken pot pie, fried-green tomatoes, and even deviled eggs. For those looking for something a bit lighter/healthy, house made pasta and a few salads are also offered. Dinner is served nightly until 10pm to 11pm. The weekend brunch menu features items like French toast, egg scrambles, huevos rancheros, and sandwiches such as a pulled pork Sloppy Joe, their Tipsy Burger, and Wild Alaskan Halibut sandwich.

The cocktail menu is awash with drinks containing fancy liquors like Le Tourment Vert Absinthe, Harlem, Aperol, and Old Overholt Rye just to name a few. For those that prefer sweet over dry, Strawberry Fields is a must try, which contains vodka, fresh strawberries, fresh lime, simple syrup, and soda, served in a Mason jar. Their Moscow Mule, Pickwick Julep, and classic Greyhound are also worth sampling, not to mention their Drakes Woodworm, which contains Absinthe and St Germain Elderflower liquor. |Tipsy Pig|

San Francisco, CA 94107

There really is no better way to spend a sunny Spring Saturday than with good friends, good drinks and baseball. Just a few blocks away from AT&T Park, home of the SF Giants, you’ll find 21st Amendment, a local brewery and restaurant founded in 2000. A great setting for both pre and post-game gatherings, it’s the perfect place if you’re there to try some of their hand-crafted beers, or just hoping to grab a burger.

One of the best things about 21st Amendment is the beer garden they open up on game days. In the De Boom Street alley, on the side of the pub, bar tables, stools and a small bar are set up for Giants fans and beer lovers to take advantage of some great brews and nice weather on the way to or from the ballpark. One of the most popular, and pretty original, is the Hell or High Watermelon beer, served with a fresh watermelon slice on the glass. For those of you not into a fruity brew, there is always a wide array of varietals on tap, from Pale Ales like Drakes 1500 to dark IPAs like Back in Black, there is something for every taste at 21st Amendment. Also, if you can’t actually make it into the restaurant, but you still want to try some of their tasty brews, you can always look for a few of them: Hell or High Watermelon, Brew Free or Die IPA and Monk’s Blood Belgian Ale, available in a growing number of stores throughout the country. |21st Amendment|

Being St. Patrick’s Day and all, it seemed appropriate to spend my Saturday celebrating over pints of Guinness and some pub fare. My friends decided upon Johnny Foley’s Irish House, a traditional Irish pub located near Union Square, for the festivities. Foley’s was surprisingly larger than expected with multiple dining areas and a separate bar in the rear dining room. There’s even a dueling piano bar located in the basement worth checking out. The food is best described as hearty pub fare with staples like fish & chips, bangers & mash, and sheperd’s pie, though I did see a curry dish on the menu as well. The menu’s various fried foods will usually pair nicely with any beer from Murphy’s Irish Stout to Chimay, both of which are available on tap. |Johnny Foley’s|

Indian food at an Irish Pub in a tony Italian district? Skeptics would say that sounds out of place, but this is San Francisco, so then again anything is possible.

Kennedy’s has a Bohemian feel, with some unexpected highlights such as its extensive list of great beers on tap, and of course the Indian fare, served until 2 am. Best of all, they deliver. The 2 for 1 drafts happy hour everyday from 5 pm to 7 pm, and a happy half-hour at 11 pm are added benefits.

The pub is a place locals visit often to watch a game, shoot some pool or just enjoy a very good traditional Indian dish. Most dishes are $10-$12 with plenty of food for two or for one very hungry person.

Located right off the Powell-Mason cable car line.

Definitely worth the stop. |Kennedy’s|
