Lucca Delicatessen

2120 Chestnut Street
San Francisco, CA 94123
(415) 921-7873

Owned and operated by the Bosco family since opening in 1929, Lucca Delicatessen has been a Marina staple, satisfying local cravings for gourmet Italian sandwiches, premium deli meats, homemade pastas, and focaccia for generations. Lucca roasts and ages many of their own meats; their homemade ravioli, gnocchi, tortellini, and bread sticks are all worth sampling.

It should be no surprise to see the line extend out of the door and down the street, because crafting a great sandwich takes time. Here the meats and cheeses are sliced to order, the tomatoes, onions and pickles, are all cut that day, and their signature red pepper spread is house made. Fresh bread is just as crucial to make a great sandwich, and I love that I can come here and get my sandwich on a Acme rosemary roll that was freshly baked that morning. Sometimes the wait in line does have its benefits; a few visits back I was next in line to Speaker of the House and SF native Nancy Pelosi, who was very friendly and approachable. I believe she recommended the Prosciutto. |Luccadeli|

  1. This is my favorite deli in San Francisco. I always used to get the Italian combo sandwich. I was also able to procure some hard-to-find Italian wines at Lucca that were unavailable or difficult to find anywhere else. I wish they had an equivalent in Boston!
